Section missing when tiling pages

I really hope someone can help - I'm at my wits end.

I'm designing templates for paper cuts which are A3 or A2. At the moment, I'm designing in Illustrator at the correct size and saving as a PDF. I'm then opening in Acrobat Pro to print to multiple A4 pages.

I have to go into the page set-up to select my printer and then A4 - Borderless printing. I then select tile all pages. No matter what i set the percentage and the overlap as, there's always a section missing along the middle of the image. Frequently they don't line up correctly either. If I try to print at 100%, it goes on to an extra page, if I reduce to 99% or 98% then it prints to the correct number of pages but with this middle section missing.

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? I'm planning to purchase an A3 printer which should eliminate the problem for A3 images, but I don't want to still have this issue when working on A2 images.

Also, potentially stupid question - what does overlap mean? I assumed it meant that the set amount will be reproduced on both pages so that the print outs overlap, but I wonder if it actually means that this amount will be missing from the middle. The problem is that I can't seem to confirm this with the tests I'm doing. I'm wasting tons of paper and ink and I'm pulling my hair out. Please help!

I'm working from a MacBook that's running Maverick, using CS6. The printer is shocking (Kodak Office Hero 6.1) but at the moment I'm not sure that it is the problem.

Thanks so much to anyone who can help
